2009 APRILIA SXV 4.5-5.5 REVIEW

Overview
Aprilia is famous Italian bike manufacturer who stands top among the famous motorcycle manufacturers all over the world. The first bike in SXV series was introduced in 2008 by Aprilia. SXV series was the world's first twin cylinder supermotard. Ever since its debut, it has been constatly developed and perfected by the immense technical know-how of Aprilia Racing. The latest vehicle in SXV series, the Aprilia SXV 4.5-5.5 has been unveiled in 2009.

Design
As in every Aprilias, the new SXV 4.5-5.5 has been manufactured with great care and attention given on even the smaller components. As a result, even the standard SXV is a genuine competition motorcycle. The latest Aprilia SXV is manufactured with intelligent design solutions. For instance, the fixed air ducts allow the fuel tank to tilt up for easy access to the airbox.

Engine
The 45.2 engine in SXV 4.5-5.5 is the centre piece of SXV technology. Aprilia was the first bike manufacturer to believe in the validity of the V twin for supermotards. The high-tech V twin engine in Aprilia has already proved reliable in competition. The 77 degree V angle has been aimed at boosting power as well as reducing vibration. The 45.2 engine in SXV vibrates far less than any conventional single cylinder alternative. The 45.2 engine is also extremely silent running and ecological engine.
The major characteristics of the 45.2 engine are:-
* Electronic fuel injection with 38 mm throttle bodies (40 mm on the 550 engine).
* Dry sump lubrication with separate external reservoirs for gearbox and engine oil to avoid contaminating engine oil with particles of clutch friction lining, and for extended lubricant life.
* Single overhead cam with four valve heads
* Single piece crankshaft
* Cylinders integrated in the crankcase with wet liners
* Maximum engine speed 12,500 rpm (450 motard)

Chassis-So light!!!!
The perimeter frame in the chassis of SXV os a tubular steel trellis structure interference fitted to pressed Aluminium side members to form an extremely rigid whole. The Engine acts as the load bearing element thus forming an integral part of the chassis. The Aluminium alloy swingarm offers the highest structural rigidity available in this class of motorcycle. The 48mm upside fork offers greater high-speed stability and improved damping in off-road use.

Braking System
The high performance and advanced tachnology of SXV are reflected in the Superb braking system of SXV. The SXV features FTE calipers and lightweight wave discs (320 mm at the front) for maximum braking control even under the most challenging conditions. The 240 mm rear disc is braked by a single piston caliper for a perfect combination of power and control.
